William Leighton Leitch (1804-83)
Oban c. 1847
-
A watercolour of a view of the bay at sunset, with fishing vessels, figures and a cottage on the right. Although of a different size from Leitch's other watercolours in this series (RCIN 919675, 919676, 919677, 919678 and 919679), this probably illustrates the visit of the Queen and Prince Albert to the West Coast of Scotland in August 1847. It is possible that the artist accompanied the royal party and made sketches on the tour, but more likely that he followed the route later to make his drawings for her.
