E Becker (active 1793-1810)
[Keswick Lake & Skiddaw: Dawn 4. am. 1802] 1802
-
A watercolour showing a mountain valley with a lake in the centre; two figures rest on the path in the foreground centre. Within a thick black ink line border.
The drawing was acquired as a work by E. Becker, now probably identified with Ferdinand Becker, a German artist working in Bath from the 1790s until his death in 1825. Becker is known to have exhibited views of the Lake District at the British Institution in 1810. Three other drawings supposedly by Becker (RCINs 917765-67) do not seem very similar to drawings by Ferdinand Becker in the British Museum.Provenance
Queen Charlotte; Prince Ernst of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha; purchased by HM Queen Elizabeth II from Abbott and Holder (list 44), 1958
As part of ongoing provenance research, this work has been identified as having uncertain or incomplete provenance for the years 1933–45. Royal Collection Trust welcomes information and assistance in the investigation and clarification of the provenance of all works during that era. -
