A watercolour of the camp of Lord Mayo at Agra, India. In the foreground servants arrange luggage, a group of figures, including the Maharaja of Benares, Duke of Edinburgh, Lord Mayo and Col William E. Moyses Reilly, stand in conversation behind them. Elephants and canopies in background. Signed with initials and dated at lower right.
Richard Bourke, 6th Earl of Mayo (1822–72), was Viceroy and Governor General of India from 1869 until his assassination in 1872. From the 21 to the 25 January, Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, stayed at Lord Mayo's camp at Agra.Provenance
Painted for Col. Reilly; bequeathed to 'F.E' by Miss Reilly on her death in 1886; Purchased by HM Queen Elizabeth II from the Parker Gallery, November 1954
