West Window of St George's Chapel, Windsor c. 1765
Pencil, pen and ink and watercolour | 17.9 x 20.6 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 917761
-
A pencil, pen and ink and watercolour drawing of the west front of St George's Chapel. On the right, brick chimney stacks and the entrance to the Horseshoe Cloister. A grassy slope in the foreground. Inscribed below in pen and ink, possibly in the artist's hand, 'W. Window St Georges Chapel Windsor - ' and at the top in pencil, '80'. Mounted on a sheet of paper inscribed in pencil in a later hand 'All writing - clip left' and numbered, 10. The two sheets in a twentieth-century wash-line bordered mount.
The drawing is probably a preparatory study or drawing made on the spot, similar in handling to RCIN 917757.Provenance
Purchased by HM Queen Elizabeth II from Agnew's, February 1954, no. 26
