Charles Reginald Aston (1832-1908)
Windsor Castle from across the River Thames dated 1887
-
A watercolour view of Windsor Castle from across the Thames. Thames Street and the river, with a figure leading a horse along the riverbank, are in the foreground, and there is a rowing boat with four figures in the centre of river, moving to the right. Signed. Inscribed in a later hand with the date 1887. Aston was a Birmingham landscape painter and nephew of Sir Thomas Lawrence.
Provenance
Possibly from the RI gift to the Duke and Duchess of York, 1893, of which no list exists; or purchased early in the twentieth century with other views of Windsor.
