A watercolour drawing of a view of the lake in St James's Park. Buckingham House is in the distance. People strolling in the park, and a kite in the sky.
The topographical draughtsman and printmaker John Maurer made many views of London in the first half of the eighteenth century. This watercolour is the same view as that seen in a print by Maurer dated 1741, showing a 'Perspective View of the Great Canal'. A monochrome drawing of the same subject but looking east is in the British Museum's Crowle Pennant, vol. IV, p. 103.Provenance
