A pen and grey wash drawing of the entrance to the Library from the cloisters, Westminster. Signed: J. Whichelo 1805. Inscribed on the verso 'Entrance to the Library from the Cloisters, Westminster', and in pencil in a later hand, 'Entrance to the Chapter House'.
Charles John Mayle Whichelo usually signed his works as John Whichelo. He was a British marine and topographical artist; his works were published in several British topographical publications including Londina Illustrata (1808-23). This drawing was engraved by J. Storer at an unknown date. The Chapter House at Westminster formerly housed the Records, and is entered from the East Cloister. -
