A pencil drawing of Windsor from Sheet Street, looking towards the Castle. In the centre foreground a female figure stands offering a bowl to a horse and rider. Inscribed in pencil below, 'Windsor Castle from Sheet Street 1777'. With a ruled pencil border and some ruled lines used for drawing the architecture. Mounted on a sheet of grey paper with an ink line border. One of a series of twelve small pencil drawings of views of Windsor Castle, uniform in size and all mounted on sheets of grey paper (RCINs 914523, 914529, 914533, 914537, 914539, 914540, 914542, 914544, 914556, 914570, 914571, 914601, 914607), bought by Colnaghi for George IV when Prince of Wales at the estate sale of the artist. The same subject is shown in RCIN 914608, and in two watercolours both formerly in the collections of Joseph Banks (1876 sale, lots 30 and 36) and the Hon. Sir Richard Molyneux.

One of twelve sketches acquired by Colnaghi for George IV when Prince of Wales, Paul Sandby estate sale, Christie's 2-4 May 1811, lot 20, £5 7s. 6d., described as 'Twelve sketches in pencil fixed, views of Windsor Castle in 1777'.
