The same view in bodycolour is in a private collection (see Views of Windsor, p. 74). A similar view was included in Sandby's series of etchings of Windsor drawn in 1769 and published in 1780 (for example, British Museum 1904,0819.596).

The view is taken from beside the bridge over the stream between Lower Romney Island and the Windsor bank, next to the King's Engine House. The stretches of water around Romney Island were popular with fishermen in Sandby's time.
