-
A watercolour drawing of the north and east fronts of Windsor Castle, seen from the Home Park. A line of trees runs acroos the centreground. In the foreground, a grassy plain, with cattle and deer. The Park Keep on horseback, with a dog, is at the centre left. On two sheets of paper, joined at the centre left. The whole sheet of paper is circumscribed with a black ink line, and mounted with green coloured pasted paper strips. Other examples of such mounts, associated with the colleection of Sir Joseph Banks, are RCINs 914559 and 914575. Inscribed on the verso in pencil, 'Drawn for Sir Joseph Banks', and in another hand 'Windsor. North East view of the Castle from the Little Park'. Inscribed in the lower right corner 'Bought at Christie's Dec 22/20' and '18gs'.
The wide format and size of the drawing indicate that it is probably a companion to RCIN 914582, also formerly in the Banks collection. The view shows the raised area to the east that contained the bowling greens until about 1780, and the wooden summerhouse that appears in RCIN 914575.Provenance
