A bodycolour drawing of Windsor Castle, showing the Secretary of State's (Victoria or the Queen's) Tower and the Tennis Court, from the Little Park. Trees on the left. A man on horseback, probably a Park Keeper, and three standing figures with a child are at the centre. A man in a red coat is in the background. Inscribed on the verso in pencil in a later hand, 'S.E. Corner of Windsor Castle'. The sheet of paper is circumscribed with a black and gold wash line border.
As with other bodycolours by Paul Sandby, there is a replica in watercolour (RCIN 914579) made for Sir Joseph Banks. The figures with the horse and rider also appear in RCIN 914550. A drawing by Jacob Schnebbelie (RCIN 917374) gives the same view in 1787, after the Queen's Lodge had been erected.Provenance
Possibly bought (with RCIN 914580) on 22 March 1819, 'Drawing of SE Corner of Windsor Castle' [no artist], £2.12.6 (see Royal Archives invoice 28185); Royal Collection by 1892 (listed in W. Sandby, p. 215 'The South-East Corner, 1772')
