The drawing shows the same view as an aquatint dated 1 September 1776 showing Bonfire Night celebrations, 'Windsor Castle from the Lower Court on the 5th November' (British Museum 1904,0819.754). Sandby also depicted nocturnal celebrations at Windsor for George III's birthday in 1768 (RCIN 914584), a work that was possibly exhibited at Spring Gardens that year (no. 145).
