Sandby settled in London from 1752. The male figure and standing female figure appear in a drawing of the view from the gardens of Somerset House, attributed to Thomas Sandby in the Crowle Pennant at the British Museum (L.B.9). Sandby manipulated some architectural elements: the colonnade behind lay parallel to the river instead of at right angles to it.
