Description

This drawing shows Florence Nightingale (1820–1910) aged 88, wearing bonnet tied with large bow. In 1907, a year before the drawing was created, Nightingale became the first woman to receive the Order of Merit – Britain’s highest civilian decoration – in recognition of her achievements in nursing.
