-
A pencil and grey wash drawing of a view of the North Terrace of Castle Windsor Castle, with the River Thames in the foreground. Squared and pricked. Inscribed below: Br.
The landscape painter and diarist Joseph Farington gives us a invaluable resource for the study of the London art world after the formation of the Royal Academy in 1768 in the form of his extensive diaries; the manuscripts for these famous diaries are in the Royal Library, together with sketchbooks from Scotland and Wales, and other papers and travel notes. This drawing is one of various drawings of Windsor Castle in the Royal Collection. The scene was etched by Farington at an unknown date, and an aquatint made after it by Stadler, 1 June 1793.Provenance
Purchased from Reverend Edwin Eland, 7 March 1924
