A drawing of a woman in antique drapery, holding a torch in her right hand. This is a copy from the Codex Escurialensis (fol. 54v; library of El Escorial; by an artist close to Domenico Ghirlandaio). Another copy by Fra Bartolomeo from this Codex is at 912784v, and like that copy, Popham (in P&W 1949) judged that the style of this drawing, if by Fra Bartolomeo, is very early. But both this sheet and 912784 bear other studies that are clearly later in Fra Bartolomeo's career (as does 912779, a copy from the Codex not by Fra Bartolomeo), so this apparently undeveloped style is probably a consequence of Fra Bartolomeo having copied a stiffer prototype.
On the verso, a drawing of Judith, her right arm raised; the area of her left hand is damaged, but a separate study in the left margin shows her left hand holding the head of Holofernes. Another study probably for the same composition is at RCIN 912779. -
