The head of a woman c. 1750-70
Black chalk, pen and bistre | 21.1 x 30.7 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 907662
-
A drawing after Piazzetta of the head and shoulders of a woman turned to the right. Her head, hand and collar are only indicated in black chalk, whereas the dress and background are in pen and bistre. This drawing occupies the left side of a sheet on the right side of which is another drawing of a woman, RCIN 907663.
RCINs 907662, 907663, 907666, 907667, 907670, 907671 and 907674-907679 are drawings of heads after Piazzetta: some are exact copies of drawings by Piazetta in the Royal Collection. Others can be connected with drawings surviving in other collections, and the remainder are so exactly in the manner of Piazzetta that they must be presumed to be copies of lost drawings.Provenance
Probably acquired in 1762 by George III from the collection of Joseph Smith, British Consul in Venice
