Sebastiano Ricci (Belluno 1659-Venice 1734)
Joseph in prison interpreting dreams c. 1700-34
-
A black and white chalk drawing of a seated man in chains, talking to two others. The subject is Joseph in prison interpreting dreams (Genesis 40). The sheet is folded in half, and the only drawing in the album to be pasted on the facing left hand page, without a Venetian decorative border. This suggests it was added later, though it is numbered in sequence with the rest, possibly once in the possession of George III. Blunt suggests this a studio drawing, perhaps after a lost composition.

Consul Joseph Smith; acquired by George III in 1762
