Sebastiano Ricci (Belluno 1659-Venice 1734)
Diogenes before his tub c. 1695
-
A pen and ink and wash drawing of an old man lying down, attended by another figure. Inscribed on the verso: No. 13 JS. The drawing is possibly a study for Ricci's painting of Alexander visiting Diogenes (University of Parma) painted in 1695. However the composition of the painting is reversed and more compact. Another painting of the same subject was in the Ranuzzi Collection, Bologna in 1698. Another drawing of the same theme is in the album of Ricci drawings in the Accademia in Venice (page 62).
