A red and black chalk drawing of five studies of children's heads. On his way back to Venice from London in December 1716, Ricci visited the studio of Antoine Watteau in Paris with the patron and collector Pierre Crozat. Ricci made several copies of Watteau's trois-crayons drawings, including this drawing formerly in the Groult Collection, Christie's, London, 2 July 2013, lot 27. Ricci has rearranged the figures on the sheet. Other copies after Watteau by Ricci are RCINs 906992, 906993 and 906994. The middle head in the upper row appears in a copy in the Bellingham-Smith and Koenigs collections (sale catalogue, Muller, Amsterdam, 5 July 1927, lot 139, ill.) The figure on the bottom right was engraved by Trémolières in the Figures de différents caractères.
