Sebastiano Ricci (Belluno 1659-Venice 1734)
A child leaning on a table 1716
-
A red and black chalk drawing of a child leaning on a table. On his way back to Venice from London in December 1716, Ricci visited the studio of Antoine Watteau in Paris with the patron and collector Pierre Crozat. Ricci made several copies of Watteau's trois-crayons drawings. This figure is copied from a drawing of five children's heads that was formerly in the Groult Collection, Christie's, London, 2 July 2013, lot 27. The whole drawing was also copied by Ricci (RCIN 906996). As the figure is in reverse, it is either a counterproof from Watteau or Ricci's drawing, or copied from a counterproof. Other copies after Watteau are RCINs 906992 and 906994.
