The Holy Family c.1590-5

Two studies of full compositions of the Holy Family with a young St John the Baptist.
The two studies of the Holy Family shows a different degree of finish: the one at the top is more elaborated in red chalk and shows extensive modelling, whereas the one below only captures the outlines of the figures in red chalk. In the left bottom corner a separate study of St John the Baptist that might have belonged to another version of the same composition but was cut from the sheet. Both compositions were squared for transfer to a painting or wall. They relate to no surviving painting in Figino's hand, but share similarities with RCIN 906961. On the verso of this sheet there is a study of a woman's head turned in profile.
