Recto: A copy after Federico Barocci's Rest on the Flight to Egypt. Verso: Two studies of a male torso
On the recto of the sheet Figino partially copied Federico Barrocci's Rest on the Flight to Egypt. As Figino's drawing is reversed compared to the original painting, he probably copied it from a print. The way Figino finely modelled the two views of a male torso on the verso is very similar to his drawings of ancient sculpture. Further studies of the same torso by Figino in the Royal Collection are RCINs 906874 and 906888 and inv.nos. 990v, 992r and 1100 at the Accademia in Venice.
Inscribed at lower right on recto: No 79; at lower right on verso: FiginoProvenance
Bequeathed by the artist to Ercole Bianchi in 1608; in the collection of Consul Joseph Smith by 1755; purchased by George III in 1762. Recorded in 'Inventory A', p. 117: '110 Mostly sketches after the Old Masters Raphael, Michel Angelo &c.a.'
