Recto: Three studies of a woman carrying a sieve, five of figures running, one seen from the front and one seen from behind, one of warriors fighting and two of seated figures, one with two vases. Verso: Six studies of the Virgin with Christ and John the Baptist, and two of warriors.
For his pen studies Figino often makes a rough underdrawing in red chalk in which he just captures the general outlines and then he adds the detail in pen. This can be well observed on recto and verso of this sheet. On the recto he focussed on studies for the Vestal Virgin Tuccia, a priestess of the Roman goddess of the hearth, Vesta, in ancient Rome and are often depicted carrying a sieve with fire. Other studies for the Vestal Virgin Tuccia by Figino see RCINs 906935, 906942r, 906943, 906955r, 906960 and 906966. For other studies of the Virgin and the infants Christ and John the Baptist see RCINs 906942v, 906957, 906958, 906960 v and 906961v.
