  • Two studies of a pair of female arms and of a right and left leg, both bent.

Executed in the very distinct manner of red chalk on red prepared paper, Figino closely emulates the drawing style of Cesare da Sesto, a follower of Leonardo da Vinci. During the time Figino worked in Milan Leonardo's drawings were easily accessible for artists at Villa Melzi, having been brought back to Italy by his favourite pupil Francesco Melzi after Leonardo's death in Ambrose in 1519. Nevertheless, the way Figino distributed the studies of limbs over the sheet is highly reminiscent of Cesare da Sesto's drawings style.

Two pairs of limbs are juxtaposed showing alternately almost a full arm or leg and only a bent forearm and a foreshortened shank. The positioning of the arms and hands to each other seems to emulate he posture of the arms of the Venus de Medici, now in the Uffizi in Florence, but was still in Rome when Figino went there in 1587/8. Although the arms are drawn in reverse and the position of the fingers do not directly correspond to those of the sculpture, their general impression and lightness resembles those of the ancient sculpture. This drawing shares several formal qualities with other drawings after antique sculpture created by Figino. The pair of legs cannot be connected to a sculpture.
