-
A drawing of two women drawing from the ruins of antiquity which surround them, whilst being attacked by Time; a third writes a description of them in a book, and a fourth woman selects the type with which to print what the third is writing. This is an exact study for the frontispiece to Giovanni Ciampini's Vetera Monumenta, Rome, 1690. Inscribed: Di Gio. Batista Lenardi.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 128: 'Guglielmo Burgognone a Cotempory of Carlo Maratti. Baccicia. Baldi. and others of inferior note')
