A drawing of a scene in which a kneeling woman offers a sheet of music to Apollo, who sits on a rock. Below him a putto holds a caduceus and another holds a bow. Mercury flies down to offer a musical instrument made from the shell of a tortoise, and Mars approaches from the right with a gesture of humility.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; listed in George III's 'Inventory A,' c.1800, p.128 ('Moderna Schuola Romana / Tom. I.'), of nos. 15-21: '7. Of Pompeo Battoni & Steffano Pozzi.'
