A drawing of a monk, accompanied by angels and putti, ascending to heaven on a bank of clouds. The composition is shaped to a quatrefoil. It has been squared for enlargement. Inscribed, lower right: Ludovico Gemignani. This drawing is connected with a ceiling fresco in the third chapel to the right in the church of S Caterina di Magnanapoli, Rome.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; listed in George III's 'Inventory A,' c.1800-1820, p.128 ('Moderna Schuola Romana / Tom. I.'), nos.1-6: 'Six of Gemignana'
