Circle of Francesco Bassano (1549-92)

Description

A drawing of the Samaritan lifting the injured man onto an ass. This is apparently a copy after a composition from the school of the Bassano, though it does not correspond to any known painted version. Popham (in P&W 1949) noted that the handling is close to Frans Floris. Inscribed in ink in an old hand, 'del basan vechio'.
