Jan Lievens (1607-74)
A road bridge crossing a stream on the outskirts of a village c. 1665-70
-
A pen and ink drawing of a small arched bridge under trees, with buildings on the left. A figure in a hat on the bridge. In his early career Jan Lievens worked closely with Rembrandt, sharing a studio with him in Leiden for over five years. His vigorous use of pen and ink in this late landscape recalls the drawing technique of his early studio partner.
