A drawing in pen and ink with grey wash showing the sculpture executed by François Girardon and Thomas Regnaudin for the Grotte de Thetis at Versailles. The group was moved to the Bains d'Apollon at Versailles after the Grotto was destroyed in 1686, at which point additions were made to the sides of the base. The sculpture was further remodelled in 1705, 1725 and 1775. The drawing can be dated between 1686 and 1705 on the basis that it shows the sculpture as it appeared between those years, with the additions to the sides of the base, but before the remodelling of 1705.
On the basis of this dating, Antony Blunt attributed the drawing to Claude Bertin (d.1705) a sculptor who worked at Versailles from 1685 and who may have made this drawing at the time of the movement of the group to the Bains d'Apollon as part of the work on the sculpture at that time.
