-
A study for a figure of St Barbara, standing full-length; she gazes upwards and holds the tower against her hip. The saint is shown facing half-right, whereas in RCIN 906085 she faces half-left; in spite of this the drawing is probably a preliminary study for the composition. It has been squared for enlargement.
Provenance
Bought in Rome by Richard Dalton, c.1768-9, on behalf of George III (20 scudi for a group of 67 drawings by Sassoferrato, RCIN 906046-906112; see list of disbursements in Royal Archives, 15602-3)
