A drawing of a bearded male nude, seated with a tablet held in his lap, and a candle in his right hand. This figure represents the Cynic philosopher, Diogenes of Sinope. It is almost identical to a drawing in the British Museum, inv. no. 1946,0713.1304.

Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1800-1820 (Inv. A, p. 84: among 'Study's for various paintings, not above three or four small Compositions in the whole Volume')
