A study for an apostle wearing heavy drapery, standing with his right foot forward, and his head turned upwards to the left; for the fresco of one of a series of apostles and prophets in the upper part of the nave of the church of SS Apostoli, Naples. See also RCIN 905686, 905693.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 84: 'Study's for various paintings, not above three or four small Compositions in the whole Volume')
