Recto: a study of the drapery covering the lower part of a standing male figure. Verso: a seated figure turned in profile to the right; there is a book in his left hand, and he gestures towards the viewer with his right. One of three sheets of studies probably connected with the frescoes on the walls of the nave in the church of Certosa di S Martino, Naples. See also RCIN 905694, 905702.

Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 84: 'Study's for various paintings, not above three or four small Compositions in the whole Volume')
