St Cecilia distributing alms c. 1750

A drawing of St Cecilia standing on a balcony as she distributes bread from a basket to women and infants below. She is assisted by others including a male saint giving alms to beggars, on the right. This composition is based on Domenichino's fresco of the same subject in the church of S Luigi dei Francesi, Rome.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1800-1820 (Inv. A, p.110: among 21 'Ditto of Pietro de Petris. And five of the School of Carlo Maratti')
