Two allegorical figures below an oval frame

-
A drawing of a blank oval frame supported by two allegorical figures, and surmounted by two overlapping scallop shells; this is perhaps a design for a tomb with a relief-bust in the oval. Formerly placed within the Bernini volumes.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 114: 'The Monuments of Popes in St: Peters. And the other a Design for one, and seven others for different Monuments')
