A design for a monstrance with elaborate ornamentation including putti and garlands surrounding the Host. RCIN 905571, 905577 and 905576 are thought to be free variations on Bernini's design for a monstrance (possibly connected with the Altar of the Blessed Sacrament, St Peter's) in the Museum der bildenden Künste, Leipzig.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 114: 'Of Cielings and Church as well as other Architectural Ornaments')
