The Clemency of Scipio (?), and part of another scene from ancient history c.1525-75
-
A drawing of a general seated on a throne, before whom kneels a supplicant; to the right, a warrior with his arms tied behind his back is being led away. A copy of parts of the frieze above the first floor windows on the facade of Palazzo Milesi, Via della Maschera d'Oro, Rome. Another copy of the same scene is as 905478.
Inscribed in an early hand, lower left, di Polidor.
Ravelli (1978) thought the drawing to be of the seventeenth century; while some of the faces do seem Poussinesque, the overall style is sixteenth century.Provenance
The cut top corners suggest an English seventeenth-century provenance.
