Venus and Cupid 1525-50
-
A drawing of a standing female nude, her back turned, right arm raised, looking to the right; Cupid stands on the left and holds onto her; at his feet are two masks.
Popham (in P&W): 'I associate this technique and coloured ground with Bologna and Raphaelesque painters like Giacomo Francia, Innocenzo da Imola and Girolamo Treviso. The present drawing is feeble and perhaps more mannerist in style than the work of these artists, but is probably Bolognese.'Provenance
Presumably in the Royal Collection by 1800, but not identifiable in George III's Inventory A.
