After Polidoro da Caravaggio (c. 1499-1543)
A scene from Roman History (?) c.1525-1600
-
A group of standing figures, one crowned with a book, one with a laurel wreath holding a child, gathered around a flaming altar. The composition corresponds with that painted by Polidoro between the windows, third from the left, on the façade of the Palazzo Milesi, Via della Maschera d'Oro, Rome. The subject is the pendant to another unidentified scene in which a warrior offers his sword to a priest. Another, smaller copy of the same scene is at 905438.
