After? Polidoro da Caravaggio (c. 1499-1543)
Isaac taking leave of his mother (?) c.1600-25
-
A scene with a boy kissing a stooping woman, a man taking his arm as if to lead him away; four female bystanders to the left. There are other versions of this composition in the Albertina (inv. 295), the British Museum (Sloan 5226-132), and two in the GNS, Rome (Invs. 9109, 9136); the original composition is not known, and while it was supposed by Popham and others to have been a frieze by Polidoro, that is not certain. The present copy is very Rubensian, particularly the heads of the bystanders, and an attribution to Rubens himself might be investigated.
