The head of a cherub c.1600-1700
-
A drawing of the winged head of a cherub, three-quarters right, looking upwards. Popham (in P&W 1949): 'The drawing is not a particularly characteristic one for Barocci, to whom it appears to have been anciently attributed, but its quality is good and it may be by him. If so, it is perhaps a study for the cherub above the head of the kneeling Virgin in the Perdono in San Francesco, Urbino.' However the style and taste of the drawing appears to be later than Barocci, and it may be the work of an artist such as Domenico Maria Canuti.
