The head of a woman looking upwards c.1650-1700
-
A drawing of the head of a woman, seen from below, looking up to the right. Popham (in P&W 1949): 'Though the style and the white paper are somewhat unusual for Barocci, I see no reason for doubting the old attribution. The head corresponds almost exactly with one on the extreme left in the Madonna del Popolo in the Uffizi.' Two further heads are sketched in black chalk below. While the correspondence with the head in the Madonna del Popolo is close it is not exact, and the style and taste of the drawing are suggestive of a later period, perhaps by an artist such as Domenico Maria Canuti.
