Aeneas after his shipwreck on the shores of Libya c.1585
-
A drawing of a figure standing left in ancient armour; another figure stooping to pull on the antlers of a deer(?); figures in the distance carrying goods, including a deer hung from a pole. Squared for transfer. Popham (in P&W) attributed the drawing to Bernardino Campi on its stylistic similarity (though in a different medium) to the signed drawing RCIN 990231, and suggested in might be a study for the Sala di Enea in the Palazzo del Giardino at Sabbioneta, decorated by Campi and his workshop after 1584.
