A study of a standing male figure, with his left knee resting on a rock, holding a staff. He is turned to the right, and facing away from the viewer, into the dense foliage that forms the background.
Provenance
Probably Carlo Maratta, and thus purchased by Pope Clement XI, 1703; by whom bequeathed to his nephew Alessandro Albani, 1721; from whom purchased by George III, 1762; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 106: probably one of fourteen studies listed as by Sacchi under 'Accademie di Diversi Autori')
