A drawing of an interior space indicated in linear perspective, with many figures lining the walls, forming an open square for dancers. A group of onlookers, and a dwarf with a dog, stand on the left. The dwarf is also sketched on a larger scale over the foreground of the scene. Three musicians perform on the right. The space on the right of the sheet is dotted with sketches including of figures and musical instruments. This drawing was engraved as plate 12 of Relazione della famosa festa fatta in Roma alli 25 Febbraio 1634, described by Cardinal Bentivoglio and published by Vitale Mascardi.

Probably Carlo Maratta, and thus purchased by Pope Clement XI, 1703; by whom bequeathed to his nephew Alessandro Albani, 1721; from whom purchased by George III, 1762; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1800-1820 (Inv. A, p. 106: 'A Sketch of a Ball')
