A sheet of studies for a composition of Christ and the Woman Taken in Adultery. A characteristic late drawing by the artist.
The sheet is stamped at lower right with the five-pointed star mark associated with Nicholas Lanier (Lugt 2886), and inscribed in a seventeenth-century hand often seen with Lanier's stars, 'Giaco.mo Palma'.H. Tietze and E. Tietze-Conrat, The Drawings of the Venetian Painters in the 15th and 16th Centuries, New York 1944, no. 1248.

From the collection of Nicholas Lanier (his five-pointed star, Lugt 2886); probably acquired by Charles II. Listed in George III’s Inventory A, c.1800, p. 85, ‘Scuola Veneziano’, among ‘22 to 28. Giacomo Palma’.
