Domenico Campagnola (1500-64)
A landscape with a castle c.1525-50
-
A drawing of an extensive landscape, a castle in the middle distance, a town on a hill beyond, a sunrise/set to the right. Simply executed but coherent, and probably autograph. The Tietzes regarded the drawing as late, but Popham noted the foreground to be characteristic of early drawings by Campagnola. Stamped in the lower right corner with a George V blind stamp.
