A drawing of Phineas dressed in priest's garments standing, full length, in a landscape; he holds a pike in his right hand, and his left hand rests on his hip; in the background on the left, are troops in combat, and on the right there is a town. Inscribed below: . PHINEES . , and lower left: 5. This drawing is from a series of thirty four scenes from the Old Testament which, with the exception of RCIN 904742, served as preparatory drawings for 33 of the 39 engravings in reverse by Johannes Sadeler the Elder (Hollstein , XXI, pp.96-7, nos.72-110), designed to illustrate L.Hillesemius, Sacrarum Antiquitatum (Antwerp, 1577).
